About ALYSSA L. LAZAR

Alyssa Lazar is an attorney and strategic advisor to businesses, leadership teams, employees, and families navigating complex institutional environments. She brings experience across three complementary roles:

  • employment and insurance litigation attorney
  • in-house corporate counsel
  • external advisor to HR and executive leadership teams

This combination allows her to advise clients not only on what the law permits—but on what decisions are sustainable operationally and defensible strategically.

She is licensed to practice law in North Carolina and West Virginia.

Professional Experience

In-House Counsel Experience

Before founding Lazar Law PLLC, Alyssa served as Legal Counsel, Labor & Employment (USA) at Circle K Stores Inc., advising an international workforce organization on employment compliance, investigations, accommodations, wage-and-hour issues, and HR operations. In this role, she:

  • counseled HR leadership on day-to-day employment decisions
  • supported responses to claims, administrative complaints, and audits
  • designed compliance tools and employment procedures
  • drafted onboarding and offboarding agreements
  • delivered training for management and HR teams across multiple employment-law risk areas

This experience informs her approach to outside counsel work today: practical, operationally aware, and aligned with how organizations actually function.

Litigation and Law Firm Experience

Prior to her in-house role, Alyssa practiced employment litigation at Bowles Rice LLP and Steptoe & Johnson PLLC, representing employers in complex workplace disputes across federal and state forums. Her litigation work included:

  • defending discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination claims
  • preparing responses before the EEOC and state civil rights agencies
  • conducting pre-suit negotiations to resolve disputes before escalation
  • drafting motions, discovery strategy, and dispositive filings
  • advising clients on compliance with evolving federal and state labor law frameworks

She also defended claims before the EEOC, providing early-stage positioning designed to minimize exposure and litigation cost.

Strategic Advisory Approach

Across both private practice and corporate counsel roles, Alyssa has advised leadership teams on issues affecting:

  • workforce structure and policy development
  • investigations and disciplinary actions
  • accommodation strategy and leave compliance
  • wage-and-hour risk mitigation
  • employee relations disputes
  • regulatory responses and administrative proceedings

This experience forms the foundation of Lazar Law PLLC’s fractional general counsel model, which provides businesses with ongoing legal strategy without requiring full-time internal counsel.

Education Law and Institutional Advocacy

In addition to her employment practice, Alyssa represents students and families navigating complex school-system disputes involving:

  • Section 504 and IDEA protections
  • disability accommodations
  • student discipline
  • constitutional education rights
  • bullying and harassment issues under state law
  • administrative hearings and agency proceedings

Her approach combines litigation readiness with early-stage advocacy designed to secure meaningful outcomes without unnecessary escalation.

Industries Served

Alyssa’s work has supported organizations across sectors including:

  • national retail and workforce-intensive operations
  • contractor and skilled-trade businesses
  • education and early childhood systems
  • professional services firms
  • founder-led small and mid-sized companies

This cross-sector exposure allows Lazar Law PLLC to translate legal requirements into operationally workable guidance.

Representative experience includes:

  • advising businesses responding to threatened litigation and regulatory exposure
  • supporting organizations through workforce-related disputes
  • representing families in constitutional and statutory education matters

  • guiding employers through compliance-sensitive personnel decisions
